I bought a Netgear N600 WIRELESS DUAL BAND GIGABIT ROUTER. It works for both my mac, PC and iPhones without any extra effort. Where as the airport was built FOR mac and PC needed some effort. If it were a perfect product it wouldn't need any effort from the PC side.
The Airport utility is a novel idea but is build for mac and therefore requires special attention on PC.

Thats because it was built FOR the mac. I believe the PC would have been a secondary thought, thats why you had to download and install other programs to do it. They probably mimic the mac OS on the PC.

Well its been a treat. Using the Airport utility to set it up it was a breeze. Thats on the mac for windows it was another story.

I had to download the airport utility and when you search for airport most of the search returns are for the mac, which didn't help me much.

Once I downloaded the utility and used it on windows its the same as the mac version. With one difference.

I used the usb printer to the back of the airport extreme and to be able to see the printer in windows I had to download another program. Again on the mac it just worked :P.

Overall very happy with it, so it was worth it in the end.

Microsoft didn't buy them back in the 90s when Apple had major money issues. Microsoft certainly can't afford to buy them now.

Would we have seen an iPhone if Microsoft had bought Apple? We would still be using nokias for mobile and I would be typing this on a clanky laptop instead of my iPad.
That would have been a horrible future.

Will all happen around 2015.
